Dashboards not only promote efficiency, they measure it for you. Every organization has unique needs and goals that influence its approach to governance. One major remedy for project inefficiencies is to leverage SharePoint Sites and SharePoint Site Collections as dashboards for singular projects or even dashboards for interdepartmental collaboration. A SharePoint site can have one or more pages on which content may be presented to the user, and the overall purpose of the site is to keep everyone on your team up-to-date about overall project status and individual task needs.
Managing your projects in a SharePoint site keeps your team informed and engaged by pulling all project components into a single dashboard that include:. Much like its name suggests a SharePoint Site Collection is a collection of SharePoint Sites that allows project managers to cluster multiple teams or departments under a single umbrella. While there is a top-level site within the Site Collection that serves as Central Command, each team or department will be assigned its own website in order to promote collaboration.

How much of your process is automated and how much of it is manual? As different components of the project get handed off between team members and between departments, how smooth is that transition? How often do project bottlenecks occur and where do they occur most? But how well are you leveraging all of its capabilities?

The book safely in my view assumes a reasonable level of familiarity with both standard office use of computers, and a reasonable level of familiarity with PM principles and techniques, taking this to build a PMIS, so often referred to in PM textbooks as an essential resource but rarely explained or explored in any depth. Chapter 2 deals with the structure and hierarchy of SharePoint sites, and takes the reader through the creation and customisation of the most basic elements of a SharePoint site as a practical exercise if you have the necessary resources handy. Chapter 3 builds on this foundation by adding PMIS elements such as a shared calendar, contacts list, risk list, and document library, using these as opportunities to explain how these SharePoint features work. Chapter 4 covers the introduction of stakeholders, managing their access to information using groups with varying permissions.

How to Hire a VA That Actually Helps You with Matthew Yahes
Signing out of account, Standby Hiring a good lawyer is crucial to any successful business. Here's everything you need to know about finding, interviewing and hiring the very best. There are two professionals every business will need early on: an accountant and a lawyer.
First, some general rules about dealing with lawyers:. America's judicial system is a lot like a Roach Motel--it's easy to get into court, but very difficult to get out once you've been "trapped. While larger firms are more expensive to deal with, they have two significant advantages: 1 they usually have all the legal skills you need "under one roof," and 2 they have a lot of clout in the local, regional and perhaps national legal community.
A nasty letter from a "powerhouse" law firm with offices in 30 states is a lot more intimidating than a nasty letter from a solo practitioner who is not admitted to practice in the defendant's state.
Certainly if you run a fast-growing entrepreneurial company that plans to go public or sell out to a big company some day, you would need to work with lawyers whose names are recognized in the investment banking and venture capital communities.
Business organizations. You will need a lawyer who can help you decide whether a corporation or limited liability company LLC is the better way to organize your business, and prepare the necessary paperwork. Real estate. Leases of commercial space--such as offices and retail stores--are highly complex and are always drafted to benefit the landlord. Because they tend to be "printed form" documents, you may be tempted to think they are not negotiable.
Intellectual property. If you are in a media, design or other creative-type business, it is certainly a "plus" if your lawyer can help you register your products and services for federal trademark and copyright protection. Generally, though, these tasks are performed by specialists who do nothing but "intellectual property" legal work. If your lawyer says he or she "specializes in small businesses," then he or she should have a close working relationship with one or more intellectual property specialist.
Most lawyers will charge a flat one-time fee for routine matters, such as forming a corporation or LLC, but will not volunteer a flat fee unless you ask for it. Be sure to ask if the flat fee includes disbursements the lawyer's out-of-pocket expenses, such as filing fees and overnight courier charges , and when the flat fee is expected to be paid.
Many attorneys require payment of a flat fee upfront, so that they can cover their out-of-pocket expenses. You should always ask to "hold back" 10 to 20 percent of a flat fee, though, in the event the lawyer doesn't do the job well. Lawyers will be reluctant to quote flat fees if the matter involves litigation or negotiations with third parties.
The reason for this is bluntly stated by a lawyer friend of mine: "Even though it's a transaction I've done dozens of times, if the other side's lawyer turns out to be a blithering idiot who wants to fight over every comma and semicolon in the contracts, then I can't control the amount of time I will be putting into the matter, and will end up losing money if I quote a flat fee.
You should always ask for a written estimate of the amount of time involved, and advance notice if circumstances occur that will cause the lawyer to exceed his or her estimate. If a lawyer asks you for a retainer or deposit against future fees, make sure the money will be used and not held indefinitely in escrow, and that the lawyer commits to return any unused portion of the retainer if the deal fails to close for any reason.
You should be suspicious of any lawyer who offers to take an ownership interest in your business in lieu of a fee. A great place to start is with the American Bar Association. The ABA's website has a wealth of information for consumers and professionals alike who have legal questions. In the "Hire a Lawyer" section , you'll find information on public service lawyer referral programs, wherein you are interviewed to have your needs diagnosed and then provided with a referral to a lawyer or to helpful community resources.
There are also commercial lawyer referral services on the web. Go to FindLaw , for instance, and you have instant access to thousands of lawyers. You can search by city and state, and several results come up within the area you specify, with details of each firm's background, areas of practice, published works, attorneys on staff and so on.
There are other similar services listed on the ABA site. For a fee, you can also request a search of the ABA's National Lawyer Regulatory Data Bank to see if any disciplinary action has ever been taken against the lawyers you are interested in. To request a search, visit this section of the ABA's website for more information. For many entrepreneurs, the idea of consulting a lawyer conjures up frightening visions of skyrocketing legal bills.
When you hire an attorney, draw up an agreement called an "engagement letter" detailing the billing method. This agreement should also specify what expenses you're expected to reimburse.
Some attorneys expect to be reimbursed for meals, secretarial overtime, postage and photocopies, which many people consider the costs of doing business. If an unexpected charge comes up, will your attorney call you for authorization? Agree to reimburse only reasonable and necessary out-of-pocket expenses. No matter what type of billing method your attorney uses, here are some steps you can take to control legal costs:.
Subscribe to Entrepreneur. Magazine Subscriptions. How to Hire an Attorney Hiring a good lawyer is crucial to any successful business. By Cliff Ennico. Opinions expressed by Entrepreneur contributors are their own.
First, some general rules about dealing with lawyers: If you are being sued, it's too late. Most small businesses put off hiring a lawyer until the sheriff is standing at the door serving them with a summons.
Bad mistake. The time to hook up with a good business lawyer is before you are sued. Once you have been served with a summons and complaint, it's too late--the problem has already occurred, and it's just a question of how much you will have to pay in court costs, attorneys' fees, settlements and other expenses to get the problem resolved.
Sooner or later, these "generalists" will have to refer you out to specialists, and you will find yourself dealing with two or three or even more attorneys. Entrepreneur Editors' Picks. Most Popular. If yes, it might be time to hire someone to help you out. A great employee can take work off your platter and help you grow even faster. A fancy guy in a smart suit with a flawless resume does sound great. But for a small business, finding a like-minded person is often more important than hiring a top professional. At the start, you might need an extra pair of hands to manage your online store: track new orders, chat with customers, update inventory.
