Inventory management software service

Why You Should Partner with 3PL Central

If the answers are yes, chances are they probably have a good handle on their inventory management. Inventory management — a crucial component of supply chain management — is the process of tracking stock levels and the movement of goods, whether it be delivering raw materials to manufacturers or fulfilling orders for finished products. Inventory management is the fundamental building block to longevity, helping businesses to minimize costs, improve cash flow and boost profitability.

When your inventory is properly organized, the rest of your supply chain will fall into place. Without it, you risk a litany of mistakes like mis-shipments, shortages, out-of-stocks, spoilage when dealing with perishable stock items , overstocks, mis-picks and so on.

This technique splits goods into three categories to identify items that have a heavy impact on overall inventory cost. Just-in-time JIT inventory management is a technique in which companies receive inventory on an as-needed basis instead of ordering too much and risking dead stock inventory that was never sold or used by customers before being removed from sale status.

LIFO, or last-in, first-out, assumes the newer inventory is typically sold first to prevent inventory from going bad. The reorder point formula calculates the minimum amount of stock a business should have before reordering.

A reorder point is usually higher than a safety stock number to factor in lead time. Batch tracking is a quality control technique wherein users can group and monitor similar goods to track inventory expiration or trace defective items back to their original batch. Consignment inventory is when a consigner vendor or wholesaler agrees to give a consignee retailer their goods without the consignee paying for the inventory upfront.

The consigner offering the inventory still owns the goods, and the consignee pays for them only when they sell. Perpetual inventory management is simply counting inventory as soon as it arrives to deliver real-time insights. Or, by using handheld devices that scan product barcodes and RFID tags, you may use an inventory system that automates inventory balances as soon as stock is moved, sold, used or discarded.

Dropshipping is an order fulfillment method in which the supplier ships products directly to the customer. When a store makes a sale, instead of picking the item from their own inventory, they purchase the item from a third party and have it shipped to the consumer.

Demand forecasting is based on historical sales data to forecast customer demand. Cross-docking is a technique whereby a supplier truck unloads materials directly into outbound trucks to create a JIT shipping process.

This essentially eliminates warehousing, and there is little to no storage in between deliveries. Bulk shipments is a cost efficient method of shipping in which a business palletizes inventory to ship more at once.

Some seasonality and inventory metrics include stockouts, mis-stocks, inventory turnover ratio, dead stock and order cycle time. Have your level of mis-shipments, mis-picks or out-of-stocks decreased? What about dead stock? Have you eliminated the dead piles of inventory around the perimeter of the warehouse? As a result, you may expect to see better customer reviews, improved customer loyalty and even a boost in Amazon Seller Rating Performance.

Get rid of your deadstock: Return obsolete inventory to the supplier, bundle it together and sell it at a discounted price or donate it to free up space in your warehouse. Reduce supplier lead time. Choose better inventory management software: This can help centralize control of your inventory and automate processes. How do you measure to see if you are successfully managing inventory?

The proof is in the numbers when measuring the success rate of inventory management. What is the difference between inventory management and order management?

Structured knowledge management systems

The issue of knowledge management systems has probably always been the most discussed and debated topic within knowledge management KM. However, in modern KM, few people would disagree with the notion that knowledge management systems are an absolutely critical part of a KM initiative. More details on implementing this here: Knowledge Management Systems. On this site, I have considered the impact of IT in all the knowledge management strategy subsections, with particular emphasis on its role in knowledge sharing. From this point on, the discussion will be organized as follows:.

Structured knowledge management systems

This study aims to investigate the factors from four dimensions that have an effect both on formal and informal knowledge sharing FKS and IKS and the relationship between knowledge sharing KS and task performance in Chinese manufacturing. The structural equation modeling approach was applied to hypothesis testing according to the data collected from employees of manufacturing companies through the online questionnaire.

A total of valid responses were obtained. The results indicate that level of knowledge structure, self-efficacy, leadership support and KS culture all have a significant positive effect on both FKS and IKS while trust only positively affects FKS and information technology support positively affects IKS.

Therefore, in future research, more influencing factors could be considered in the research framework, and a multilevel model, such as a model considering the mediation effect, could be further explored.

According to the results, both FKS and IKS play a significant role in promoting organizational task performance, which is worthy of attention by the managers of manufacturing companies. In addition, the relationship between the different factors and the FKS and IKS found in this study provides specific guidance for improving the organizational KS practice.

Second, this research has clearly defined the level of knowledge structure from the perspective of knowledge ontology and verifies the positive effect of this factor on KS, providing a new theoretical perspective for exploring KS factors. The authors would like to thank all the reviewers for their insightful and valuable suggestions, which significantly improve the quality of this paper.

Each company continually gathers and elicits unstructured information — but once you have it how should you manage it? Information Management is a discipline that treats information as an asset and manages that asset similarly to other company assets such as your people or your company finances. A sub-discipline of Information Management is Knowledge Management which is the process of creating, sharing, using and managing the knowledge a company holds. Although eliciting and storing information is important, the real win is when your team can easily find and in turn use that information. Document Management provides your team with a systematic approach to manage documents, often controlled using Document Management systems. Documents, both hard copy and more often electronically, are received and created on a continual basis.

Small and medium sized companies face the problem that handing over management or key positions often lead to loss of knowledge and decision competence. The loss of knowledge often causes miss-management, decrease of efficiency and also effectiveness in key processes. In the paper a structured hand over process handling detailed preparation, extensive know-how transfer and guided introduction of the successor will be introduced as well as a case study in a manufacturing SME. Major topic of the structured knowledge transfer process is to enable organizations to plan and handle leaving or retirement of key persons without loss of key competence. Firms must deal with at least three kinds of knowledge. Some knowledge exists within the firm in the form of structured text documents reports and presentations. Decision makers also need knowledge that is semistructured, such as email, voice mail, chat room exchanges, videos, digital pictures, brochures, or bulletin board postings. In still other cases, there is no formal or digital information of any kind, and the knowledge resides in the heads of employees. Much of this knowledge is tacit knowledge that is rarely written down. Enterprise-wide knowledge management systems deal with all three types of knowledge.

What I really brought to the table was empathy, a willingness to listen, and an ability to remember the right stories at the right time. Like many of the posts in our Transferable Skills series , this post is not meant to be a comprehensive guide to Conflict Resolution. 8 Conflict Resolution Skills That You Need at Work

Conflict in project management is inevitable. The potential for conflict in information systems development projects is usually high because it involves individuals from different backgrounds and orientations working together to complete a complex task.

The cause of conflict in team projects can be related to differences in values, attitudes, needs, expectations, perceptions, resources, and personalities. Proper skills in dealing with conflict can assist project managers and other organization members to handle and effectively resolve conflicts which can lead to a more productive organization as a whole. Project management is a methodological approach to achieving agreed upon results within a specified time frame with defined resources.

The time and resources put into project management will make up for the cost over the life of the project. Project management relies on proven and repeatable processes and techniques.

This individual must be able to build an environment in which the project can be executed while protecting the environment from factors that could impede progress, planning the work that has to be completed to reach the goal, and keeping the course of the project in control. Training for project managers in this area is necessary for their success, as they are typically responsible for handling conflict during a project.

It can force people to confront possible defects in a solution and choose a better one. In addition, it can prevent premature and inappropriate resolution of conflict. Destructive conflict has a predictable pattern known as the Drama Triangle.

They involve the perception of oneself or someone else as inadequate or not acceptable. The aggressive and nonassertive behaviors that are present in these roles lead to win-lose outcomes and do not provide an opportunity for a win-win resolution.

It is important for a project manager to understand the dynamics of conflict before being able to resolve it. The internal characteristics of conflict include perception of the goal, perception of the other, view of the other's actions, definition of problem, communication, and internal group dynamics.

These characteristics can strongly influence the behavior style of group members and affect the potential outcome of the conflict. In some instances, the project manager's lack of skills to effectively manage and resolve conflict can be the problem. In Project Management: A Systems Approach to Planning, Scheduling, and Controlling, five modes for conflict resolution are explained and the situations when they are best utilized are identified.

In this approach, the areas of agreement are emphasized and the areas of disagreement are downplayed. Conflicts are not always resolved in the smoothing mode. A party may sacrifice it's own concerns or goals in order to satisfy the concerns or goals of the other party. Smoothing should be used when:. Forcing is also known as competing, controlling, or dominating style.

As the intesity of a conflict increases, the tendency for a forced conflict is more likely. This results in a win-lose situation where one party wins at the expense of the other party. Forcing should be used when:. Avoiding is also described as withdrawal style. This approach is viewed as postponing an issue for later or withdrawing from the situation altogether. It is regarded as a temporary solution because the problem and conflict continue to reoccur over and over again.

Avoiding should be used when:. Researchers examined the impact of the conflict resolution styles used by individuals in shaping their work environment and affecting the level of ongoing conflict and stress. Individuals who use more of a confronting style create an environment with lower levels of task conflict, which reduces relationship conflict and stress. Whereas, individuals who use more of the forcing or avoiding styles tend to create an environment with more task conflict, which increases relationship conflict and stress.

The study suggests conflict develops not only in environmental circumstances but in the styles used by individuals when confronted with a conflict.

Negative emotion was found to be a significant part of an individuals' perception of interpersonal conflict.

However, prevention of interpersonal conflict should be the greater focus. Al-Tabtabai and colleagues undermine the modes of conflict resolution and propose a conflict resolution technique using a cognitive analysis approach.

Feedback is presented that gives analysis of each individual's judgement and comparisons with the counterpart's judgement. This cognitive feedback provides insight to conflicting parties and gives them an opportunity to reach an acceptable resolution to the conflict.

The proposed systematic methodology to conflict resolution identifies and measures the cues, distal variable, and judgements and determines the relationships between these variables. The six steps of this methodology are listed below. The use of the cognitive analysis approach resulted in more agreement among the parties in conflict.

Cognitive feedback provided information on reasons why the disagreement occurred among the parties and on areas that needed to be addressed to reach an agreement. This approach allowed the project members involved in the conflict to concentrate on the real differences that provoked the disagreement rather than only discussing the effects of the conflicting situation.

As a result of this process, trust and a relationship bond will form preparing individuals to listen also to the needs of the manager. An awareness of the potential approaches to conflict resolution and the understanding of their consequences can provide project managers with a invaluable set of tools to create an optimal work environment.
