WORLD REFUGEE DAY: Government asks for more support for refugee management

Published
The Country Representative for United Nations High Commission for refugees, Joel Boutroue, has described the refugee situation in Uganda as dire, calling for more funding for the country's refugee response, which, he said is not even at 20 percent financing for this year. He was speaking during the commemoration of World Refugee Day in Isingiro District. State Minister for Relief, Disaster Preparedness, and Refugees, Esther Anyakun called on the international community to play, what she called, its rightful role in meeting its international obligation of burden-sharing to enable Uganda to shoulder the growing needs of refugees and host communities. This, as more pressure piles resulting from the refugee influx created by fighting in Eastern Congo.
