Installing WordPress on a localhost is a great way to test and develop your website without having to pay for hosting or affect your live website. In this guide, I will walk you through the steps to install WordPress on a localhost.
1. Step 1: Download XAMPP XAMPP is a free and open-source cross-platform web server solution that includes Apache, MySQL, PHP, and Perl. You can download XAMPP from their official website (https://www.apachefriends.org/index.html). Choose the version that is compatible with your operating system and download it to your computer.
2. Step 2: Install XAMPP Once you have downloaded XAMPP, run the installer and follow the instructions. During the installation process, you will be prompted to select which components to install. Make sure that Apache and MySQL are selected, and deselect any other components that you do not need.
3. Step 3: Start Apache and MySQL Once XAMPP is installed, start Apache and MySQL by clicking on the "Start" button next to each component in the XAMPP Control Panel. This will start the web server and database server that you will need to run WordPress.
4. Step 4: Download WordPress Download the latest version of WordPress from their official website (https://wordpress.org/download/). Once you have downloaded the zip file, extract it to the htdocs folder in the XAMPP installation directory (for example, C:\xampp\htdocs).
5. Step 5: Create a Database Open your web browser and go to http://localhost/phpmyadmin/. This will open phpMyAdmin, a web-based database management tool. Click on the "Databases" tab and create a new database by entering a name for the database and clicking on the "Create" button.
6. Step 6: Configure WordPress Open a web browser and go to http://localhost/wordpress/. This will start the WordPress installation process. Select your preferred language and click on the "Continue" button. On the next screen, enter your database name, username, and password, and click on the "Submit" button. On the next screen, click on the "Run the installation" button. Enter your website title, username, password, and email address, and click on the "Install WordPress" button.
7. Step 7: Log in to WordPress Once WordPress is installed, you can log in by going to http://localhost/wordpress/wp-login.php and entering your username and password.
Congratulations, you have successfully installed WordPress on a localhost! You can now start building your website and testing your themes and plugins without affecting your live website.
