Wolfson Haldane Lecture 2023 - Prof. Paul Nurse

The annual Haldane Lecture will be delivered in 2023 by the Nobel Prize Winner Professor Sir Paul Nurse.

The lecture will take place in the Leonard Wolfson Auditorium (LWA).

The Haldane Lecture is given by a speaker of international standing in the field of science each Hilary term. It is named after J. S. and J. B. S. Haldane, who carried out a number of pioneering experiments in the house that formerly stood on the College site. Past speakers include Sir Martin Evans, Professor V. S. Ramachandran, Sir Iain Chalmers and Professor Sir Chris Whitty.

Professor Sir Paul Nurse, will be delivering a lecture entitled ‘What is Life?’ (abstract below).

Abstract:

In this lecture I consider the question “What is Life?” by discussing five great ideas of biology, ranging from the ‘Cell’ to ‘the Logic of Life’.  By considering these concepts a direction of travel is set towards a definition of life.
