Warbonds: Battle for Vitoria (Apprentice Rules) Review — Almost the Nerdiest Game Ever?

Published
Warbonds is one of the most unique no-randomness, chess like games we've tried! It combines trading card game elements from tabletop games like Magic the Gathering, terrain elements from Tactical RPGs, and a progression system similar to Sid Meier’s Civilization. Also called Warbonds: Battle for Vitoria, Apprentice Rules, this board game has players picking Warlords in a fantasy land, trying to defeat their opponents’ war camps while being the last survivor. Warlords will deploy squad units to help them, then some army management through initiative mechanics for each round. Units will trigger abilities to assist each other, damage enemies, and perform busted combos. There is even multiplayer interactions with area of effect abilities, surprising us here at Shelfside! But do all these conflict heavy rules make for a good tabletop game? Perhaps the use of chits, cards, and a player booklet is too much in this box…
