Staff and relatives that empathise with residents have more ability to understand what it is they are going through.
Hi Everyone,

For further info..
Now living in Christchurch, New Zealand I’ve worked as a physiotherapist for 35 years and a crossover 8 years in a D3 dementia unit as a diversional therapist.
All the positive, practical tips and techniques in the books and Dementia Unit Video Series are derived from my observational skills, experience and training: along with Listening-To and Learning-From the many dementia patients I have encountered in my wide ranging working travels throughout New Zealand, England, Canada and Australia.
Throughout this time I had a physiotherapy private practice in Sydney from 1981 to 1985 treating sports injuries then another practice in Christchurch NZ for 25 years treating OOS work place injuries. Running both clinic and company programs teaching self management skills to help patients and participants reduce their pain and stress.
Physiotherapists observe, assess, mobilise, motivate and problem solve. This method I’ve applied to all my work endeavours, not least with the dementia patients in dementia units.
Additional learning has come from wide ranging reading (libraries are my favourite places) on psychology, history, technology, biographies etc along with plentiful travel and teaching experience in (and practice of) meditation, positive thinking and values empowerment.
Thank you for your support and comments and please pass on links.
