The state of Africa in relation to governance and the economy

When it was established, the Organisation of African Unity aimed to co-ordinate and intensify co-operation and efforts to achieve a better life for the peoples of Africa. The likes of Ghana's Kwame Nkrumah and Ethiopia's Emperor Haile Selassie envisioned a united free Africa. Post colonial Africa has made significant strides, however there is still work to be done in improving the lives of everyday Africans. Democracy has come under the spotlight with violations to constitutional term limits and security threats in a number of state. With just a week to go before the local government elections in SA, we assess the state of the continent in relation to governance and the economy with author and entrepreneur, Moeletsi Mbeki.
