The Fall Armyworm: A Tiny Monster

Published
Fall armyworm (FAW) is a dangerous transboundary pest with a high potential to spread rapidly due to its natural spread capacity and opportunities presented by international trade. Farmers need significant support to manage FAW sustainably in their cropping systems through Integrated Pest Management (IPM) activities. FAW cannot be eliminated.

FAO has launched a Global Action for FAW Control as a response to the international threat that FAW is posing for food security and the livelihoods of millions of smallholder farmers.

In Egypt, FAO in cooperation the Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation trained 750 inspectors, farmers, entomologists and researchers in 7 governorates, on how to identify the pest in the field and how to apply integrated pest management strategies to prevent the pest from spreading.
