The Emergence of the COO in Facilities

Published
The Emergence of the COO in Facilities presented virtually at the 2022 NBOA Conference

Many CFOs who enter the independent school world may not be fully knowledgeable about facilities operations, and are therefore highly dependent on their facilities directors for strategic and daily operating decisions. If the facilities director lacks sufficient business background, executive skills and strategic perspective, they may not be successful in shouldering the duties required. To fill the gap, more schools are hiring a chief operating officer (COO), whose duties may not include accounting and finance.

This session focuses on topics such as how this organization model impacts facilities funding and decision making, how it affects expectations of Facilities Directors, and how facilities performance supports school missions.

Presented by Jim Bonfiglio (COO at Casady School) and Bill Keslar (President/CEO of Building Solutions).
