Redy for Rust
In the StackOverflow developer survey Rust has been the most loved programming language for five years in a row (2016-2021). Time to see why Mozilla's creation is so popular. In this talk you'll encounter many of Rust's core features on a journey through a real codebase (a genetic programming simulator). As someone who has programmed in a number of languages Erik will highlight where Rust is different from other languages and what that means in day-to-day development. You'll also get a glimpse of the growing ecosystem around Rust.

Erik Dörnenburg
I'm a software developer and passionate technologist. As Head of Technology at Thoughtworks I help clients solve their business challenges using modern technologies, platforms, and practices.

Actions as data
We often see data and behaviours as two separate worlds. But what happens when your domain requires you modelling behaviours or processes? In this talk we’ll look at how to use data types with functions in their fields to model a small card game. We’ll start with Kotlin, and at the end we’ll see how some of the patterns can be further abstracted in Haskell.

Alejandro Serrano Mena
Alejandro Serrano Mena is a trainer and engineer at 47 Degrees / Xebia. He’s had a decade of experience in the field of functional programming, both in academia and industry. His journey started in Haskell, but in the last years he’s been working more and more with Kotlin. He’s written four books, the most recent one being “FP Ideas for the Curious Kotliner”.
