The purpose of the structural intervention (SI) institute is to provide health jurisdictions in the west geographic region of the United States (U.S.) with information and examples of structural interventions related to HIV prevention and care. SIs locate the source of public-health issues in factors related to the social, economic, and political environments that shape and constrain individual, community, and societal health outcomes (Blankenship et al., 2000).
Aunsha Hall-Everett provides a welcome to the institute and Patrick Piper provides a fundamental understanding of SI.
