Stephen J. Pyne presents "Between Three Fires"

Published
In his talk "Between Three Fires," historian and author Stephen J. Pyne explores the past, present, and future of America's fire landscape.

Over 40 years, Pyne has written more than 30 books, mostly on the history and management of wildland and rural fires. Pyne's latest book, "The Pyrocene: How We Created an Age of Fire, and What Happens Next," tells the story of what happened when a humanity came of age with an especially fire-receptive time in Earth's history. In The Pyrocene, he describes how we remade the Earth with fire, and how me might recover our responsibilities as keepers of the planetary flame.

This lecture was presented on February 22, 2022. It is part of "Lookout: Envisioning Futures with Wildfire," a series hosted by the Spring Creek Project and the Environmental Arts and Humanities Initiative at Oregon State University (OSU). The talk was co-sponsored by OSU's Center for the Humanities, OSU's Sustainability Office, OSU's Arts and Education Complex, Terrain.org, Corvallis-Benton County Public Library, and Grass Roots Books & Music. The talk is followed by a Q&A, moderated by Spring Creek Project Program Manager Carly Lettero.
