What does the best of transportation engineering research have to say about maintenance, rehabilitation, and replacement of critical infrastructure? How are the latest advances in technology being applied to extend lifespans of structures, and how can this technology be scaled to infrastructure projects around the United States? Structural Health Monitoring provides critical insight into answering these questions using new technologies that are changing the ways we tackle maintenance and rehabilitation of structures.

The first event in this series will be a webinar delivered by Erik Zuker, PE, of HNTB. Erik will cover the basics of SHM, the current state of the industry, the challenges of monitoring physical infrastructure and examine several case studies. The lecture will also discuss the ways that SHM can augment structural design, review upcoming technology including machine learning and computer vision, and examine future industry trends.
