Three years into the COVID-19 pandemic, China has optimized its measures with new policies on testing, quarantine and travel. While life gradually returns to normal, some experts are warning that the upcoming Spring Festival travel rush may be an important variable in the nationwide fight against the epidemic. Three weeks till the Spring Festival, China Railway has recently predicted that this year's travel rush is expected to recover to 90 percent of the pre-pandemic passenger volume in 2019, with about 360 million railway passenger trips made already and the average daily number of train trips reaching about 9 million. Meanwhile, more international travelers are expected to visit China as the country has eased the rules for international arrivals. Travels can enhance connectivity but can also speed up the spread of the virus. How do we balance the challenges and opportunities?
