Speech about Leadership (Deli Romadini)

I’m Deli Romadini, I’m from English Education Study Program, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education Universitas Muhammadiyah Palembang.

Assalamualaikum wr.wb.
First of all, let us say thanks to Allah SWT, Who always gives us grace and also to the prophet Muhammad SAW. In this opportunity I will take theme “Leadership”.

Ladies and Gentlemen..
We have all seen and heard about so many leaders in our daily.Leadership is available almost everywhere, either it be the field of business,studies,politics,or any other field.A question often arises that,leaders are born or made?The answer is, there are few people who seem to be naturally benefit with the qualities and abilities of a leader. But,it is also possible for one to learn the qualities of being a good leader. And then,Leadership refers to the quality of leading people. Probably, it is one of the most important aspects of life. Above all,leadership has led to the progress of human civilization.Without good Leadership, no organization or group can succeed. Furthermore,not everyone has this quality.First of all, confidence is the most quality.A leader must have strong self-confidence.A person lacking in confidence can never be a good leader.Another important quality is decision making.Above all,if a leader makes poor decisions then other qualities will not matter. Furthermore,good decision making ensures the success of the entire group. If the leader makes poor decisions,then the efforts of followers won’t matter.

Ladies and Gentlemen
Besides that,Leadership is not an easy task.It is not for people with weak hearts.It is about having a vision and aim.It is about being determined to achieve that aim even after having so many hurdles in between.It is about influencing.It is about positive and impactful communication.It is about having the capacity to take is the decision in the worst picture.It is about managing with visibility and not with undue power.It is linked to commitment, determination,teamwork,loyalty,and earning respect.Above all,leadership is about listening and accepting change.If we see,throughout history,great leaders have emerged with particular leadership styles in providing direction, implementing plans and motivating people.These can be broadly grouped into 5 different categories:
1.Authoritarian Leadership
Authoritarian leadership styles allow a leader to impose expectations and define outcomes.A one-person show can turn out to be successful in situations when a leader is the most knowledgeable.Although this is an efficient strategy in time-constrained periods,creativity will be sacrificed since input from the team is limited.
2.Participative Leadership
Participative leadership styles are rooted in democratic theory.The essence is to involve team members in the decision making process.Team members thus feel included, engaged and motivated to contribute.
3.Delegative leadership
Delegative leadership style focuses on delegating initiative to team members.This can be a successful strategy if team members are competent, take responsibility and prefer engaging in individual work.
4.Transactional Leadership
Transactional leadership is defined by control, organization,and short-term planning.And leaders who adopt this style rely on a system of rewards and punishment to motivate their followers.
5.Transformational Leadership
Transformational leaders create a vision based on identified needs and guide their teams toward that unified goal through inspiration and motivation.

Moreover, The qualities required for leadership are not cultivated in a day.But with time and patience, you can actually earn them.Leaders who possess great leadership qualities have learned and earned them with time. Leadership is placing the benefit of others first.It is thinking for society and linking individual goals to the goal of society.And then,leadership is important because Leadership is an act in which a group of people is motivated to achieve a common goal.We can see leadership almost in each and every field.Successful leadership is often based upon ideas that can either be borrowed or original.Those ideas are supposed to be communicated in a way that makes the members act as the choice of leader.

The real essence of leadership is when a leader pays attention to the needs of the followers and work in the direction to fulfill those needs.The history is filled with stories of various types of leadership and leaders but all reflected one common trait selflessness.To conclude,I would like to add that to be a great leader is equal to being a great human.To be a great leader you need to have the quality to lead the making.So,start cultivating them and be a source of inspiration for others too
