P B Kiran, who secured the 100th rank in the UPSC Civil Services examination, says that smart work is key to cracking the prestigious exam. “Not hard work but smart work is needed to crack the Civil Services,” says Kiran, who did not quit his job to prepare for the exam. Instead he studied in the mornings, evenings, during the weekends and free time. Kiran is hopeful of joining the IAS as he has secured the 100th rank. Otherwise he is interested in the IPS. The 32-year-old has been working as the principal applications engineer at the Oracle company at the Technopark in Thiruvananthapuram for the last 10 years.
