Should you still start a business in 'zero-COVID' China? (East-West Leadership Q&A)

Published
Would anyone dare to start a business in China right now, Sino-British College Lecturer Christian Göttker asked me while we discussed his research on the topic: "Opportunity or risk: The effects of the corona pandemic on the management localization of small and medium-sized German-speaking companies in China". The short answer is 'Yes' but for a more nuanced reply, we looked at the opposing impact of the COVID19 pandemic and China's so-called 'zero-COVID' policy on expats and international business people who do business in China or with China.

Christian has been living in China for the past ten years and worked in the management of German SMEs in China. Now he lectures Business Management at the Sino-British College in Shanghai. Find him on LinkedIn at https://www.linkedin.com/in/goettker
