Russia-Ukraine conflict: WHO calls for “humanitarian corridor” to deliver medical aid | FULL

WHO Secretary-General Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said Wednesday that the World Health OrganizatioN (WHO) is calling for the establishment of a “humanitarian corridor” to ensure delivery of, and access to, essential medical supplies as the Russian invasion of Ukraine continues.

Tedros said a shipment of supplies, including trauma care supplies and emergency surgery equipment, would arrive in Poland on Thursday “to meet the needs of 150,000 people.”

He said emergency supplies were sent to 23 hospitals prior to the outbreak of conflict, but that medical supplies sent to Kyiv were “currently unaccessible.”

The WHO also condemned attacks on health facilities and health-care workers.

Tedros said the agency has confirmed an attack on a hospital last week that resulted in the deaths of four people. Ten people were injured, he said, including six health workers.
