RM1.5 billion for management and development of Islamic affairs

A total of RM1.5 billion will be allocated for the management and development of Islamic affairs in the country, as the government makes promoting Islamic teachings a focus under the 2022 Budget.

Finance Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz said several initiatives under Islamic education would also be rolled out, including the setting up of a Sekolah Menengah Agama in Labuan at a cost of RM65 million.

In tabling the 2022 Budget today, he said the government would expand the scope of takmir teaching under the Islamic Development Department Malaysia (Jakim) to government agencies such as the Prisons Department, the National Anti-Drug Agency, Social Welfare Department by adding 1,000 takmir teachers.

A special one-off aid of RM500 would be allocated to benefit 70,000 imam, bilal, siak, noja, marbut, takmir teachers and Fardhu Ain and Kifayah (Kafa) teachers, he added.
