Reg Chapman Shares His Heart for Veterans in Need

WCCO-TV Reporter Reg Chapman is a Gulf War veteran. He served our country with the US Army in Operation Desert Shield, Operation Desert Storm, and Operation Provide Comfort from 1990 to 1991, in an effort to liberate Kuwait. Reg knows firsthand the struggle of transitioning to civilian life. That's why he cares so deeply about the Minnesota Assistance Council for Veterans' mission to end veteran homelessness.

MACV has been assisting veterans for 30 years. The organization helps more than 2,000 veterans each year, with offices in the Twin Cities Metro, Duluth, St. Cloud, Moorhead, Mankato and Rochester.

MACV's programs and supportive services focus on three primary areas: housing, employment, and civil legal concerns. They offer clean, safe, drug-free, supportive housing for homeless veterans, including 17 transitional homes with 85 units/bedrooms and 59 units of permanent housing with supportive services for veterans.

MACV helps veterans and their families find permanent housing and fully integrate into the community by providing or coordinating resources and opportunities such as food vouchers, mortgage assistance, skills training, health care, job search assistance, chemical dependency and sobriety aftercare.

MACV helps veterans achieve self-sufficiency through:
· Stabilized living through rent/mortgage assistance and temporary housing
· Improved health/quality of life
· Access to services
· Sustainable, living wage employment through training and placement
· Referral and resolution to civil legal issues
· Life skills education
· Money management skills training and financial plan development
