PROJECT FOR STRENGTHENING CAPACITY OF BORDER CONTROL IN THE PACIFIC.

The objective of the project is to support Pacific socio – economic recovery through safe resumption of border management operations and enhanced seamless border management infrastructure technology, equipment, and improved capacity with the support of funding from the Government of Japan, the project will support 7 Pacific Island countries to achieve this objective including the Federated States of Micronesia, Papua New Guinea, Republic of Marshall Islands, Samoa, Tonga, Tuvalu, and Vanuatu. The project will also work alongside the Pacific Immigration Development Community (P.I.D.C.) to strengthen integrated and coordinated approach to border management in the Pacific.

The project was officially launched on Tuesday and was attended by the Chief Executive Officer (C.E.O.) of the Ministry of Prime Minister and Cabinet (M.P.M.C.) Agafili Shem Leo, C.E.O. of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (M.F.A.T.) Peseta Noumea Simi, Ambassador of Japan to Samoa Senta Keisuke, and United Nations Development Programme (U.N.D.P.) Resident Representative Jorn Sorensen, representatives of the International Organisation for Migration (IOM) U.N. Migration, and Government officials.
