Safety in design is one of the key elements in the development of process design package for chemical process plant. It focuses on engineering approaches and mitigation measures to reduce the risk involved in operation of the plant or the consequences of an adverse event if it occurs. The process can be considered “safe” if the containment integrity of equipment and piping is maintained during the life of the plant. In reality process goes to dynamic state on several occasions due to changes occurring in the interconnected process environment.The operations of the plant have the potential to create situations, which can cause the equipment to exceed its design operating parameters, and lose it integrity. It is the safeguarding philosophy of the process plant that analyses all such potential failures and develop systems that serve to reduce the likelihood of a loss of containment incident.
