Presented By: Lauren Miller, Anami Patel, PhD

Speaker Biography: Lauren Miller is a Scientist in the Clinical Application and Marketing Support team at Thermo Fisher Scientific, with a background in regulatory, molecular biology, and biotechnology. Prior to joining Clinical Application and Marketing Support, Lauren worked as a medical device auditor at a Notified Body, authorized as Lead Auditor for ISO 13485:2016, MDSAP, and IVDD. Her technical background was established as a scientist in research and development, focused on clinical applications for Next Generation Sequencing. Lauren attended Boston University where she received her Bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, and Master’s degree in Biotechnology.

Dr. Anami Patel received his Ph.D in Microbiology and postdoctoral fellowship at University of Maryland, Baltimore, MD. Dr. Patel received his Clinical Molecular Pathology training at St. Jude Children’s Hospital in Memphis, TN. In 2002 he started the Molecular Diagnostics Clinical Service at LeBonheur Methodist Hospital in Memphis, TN where he served as Technical Director for past 14 years. Dr. Patel received a Clinical Molecular Biology & Diplomat in Laboratory Management from ASCP. He is a member of the Association of Molecular Pathology, American Society of Microbiology, and is a College of American Pathology inspection team leader.

Webinar Abstract: Last year, while experts were concerned about the “twindemic”, the flu season was virtually non-existent due to COVID-19 public health countermeasures. With COVID-19 vaccination rollouts and relaxation of these policies, a rebound increase in seasonal flu is likely. COVID-19 and influenza share similar symptoms but are managed differently.
