Online CPD Session - The Non-Profit World: 5 Things I Wish New Directors Knew

Published
In the world of business corporations where directors are paid, there is often a surplus of qualified directors to fill board vacancies. In the not-for-profit world where there is no remuneration, there has been a history of taking “warm bodies” to fill vacancies. While the “warm body” mentality is no longer as prevalent and while many NFPs have adopted best practices in governance, there is still a significant gap in how directors of NFPs understand their roles. Whether it’s how the corporation is structured, whether it’s the board’s scope of powers, duties, and responsibilities, or whether it’s the level of diligence and engagement required to be effective, we’ll cover five gaps that tend to haunt non-profits over and over again.

Five things to consider:

Non-profits need to be profitable
Duties of Directors
Confidentiality, Privacy, and Conflict of Interest
Importance of Participation (due diligence)
Board/Staff Relations

Join us on Tuesday, May 31st at 1:00 PM ET with Fellow of The Institute Linda Wood Edwards, B.Admin., CAE, FCG, Acc.Dir.
