Online CPD Session - Perspectives on the Evolving Role of Governance

Published
The Chartered Governance Institute of Canada hosted a complimentary CPD session, Perspectives on the Evolving Role of Governance, with Edo de Vette on December 1st, 2021.

In this session, Perspectives on the Evolving Role of Governance, Edo de Vette will share his insights on good governance, based on his 15 years of experience as a Corporate Secretary of the Dutch real estate company Portaal. The attention to corporate governance remains unabated. According to a study by the Dutch institute Governance University, for the governance professional, in addition to monitoring the business of the organization, the emphasis is on exploiting the perspective of the company in relation to its strategy and acting as a conscience of the organization (Peij, 2019).

Three challenges emerge from the survey among Dutch Corporate Secretaries:

1. Improve administrative information. Information is increasingly focused on the future of the organization, appropriate information provision for management and supervisory board is required, using user-friendly and reliable software tools.

2. Facilitate the governance process. Governance includes all aspects of the organization, as well as all risk fields with foreseen and unforeseen risks.

3. Internal and external compliance. Managing both external and internal compliance, in other words complying with laws and regulations in all circumstances and supervising compliance with the organization’s rules of conduct and values and standards. This requires the active acquisition of information and the correct information for the purpose of accountability.

Edo de Vette is a professional speaker, consultant, and entirely devoted to corporate governance and especially the new role of the Corporate Secretary.
