I start the discussion about the systems of “vertical alignment” within the organization, systems 4 and 3. These deal with the strategic and administrative apparatus and/or norms of the organization. This is where a lot of organizations collapse or become non-viable. It is also where a system’s responsiveness to its membership—i.e. its democratic structure—is really tested.
