MIS-605 Architecture of the information systems- Structural changes.

POS is the electronic system where retail transaction is done between merchant and customers. Point of Sale maintains sale transaction details. Customers make payment to merchant after buying goods or provision services from stores and merchant after receiving the payment from customers they generate full invoice from printer to know their item transaction details.POS is used in almost all retail business POS is used in supermarkets, hypermarkets, groceries, jewellery, footwear, stationeries, bakers, fashion and electrical and electronics.

Master: Contains details of employee, department and categories, till, vendors, customers, UOM, taxes, customer group, and barcode printing barcodes.

Purchase: We have purchase order, purchase invoice, vendor payments, warehouse goods receipt, store goods receipt, stock transfer out, stock transfer in, purchase return.

Inventory: Contains item details such as items, packs, combos, item attributes, item repacking.

Sales: We have sales order details such as salesman commission, transaction attribute, sales request.

Reports: We have store reports, head office reports. In store reports we have listing, inventory, sales, customers, purchase, venders, statutory, finance. In head office reports we have sales, inventory, statutory, finance, and purchase details.

There are several ways that we can improve the architecture shown above. The architecture of the information system shown in the above diagram is a typical

Client-server architecture.
Server - is a high-end computing machine that responds to the client's requests.

Client - send requests to the server and process the responses recieved by the server.

Addition of Firewall- All devices are exposed to others. A malicious client can attack all other devices including the server. VPN tunnel
Backup: Only the server machine is backed up. As shown in the diagram it looks like a manual backup.
All data machines data can be backed up for the smooth functioning of the business. We can improve by deploying automatic cloud backup for all systems.

Wireless: All devices are wired. We can improve with Wireless Wi-Fi service on the location. This helps the clients to move around in the store or location.
Beyond DSL: DSL is an old and slow technology connecting to the internet. Consider Fast broadband services.
