Mind the gap! What about municipal actors in river governance?

River pollution represents a humanitarian and environmental crisis. It brings disease, degrades biodiversity, chokes waterways and causes flooding.

In West Java, Indonesia, new partnerships and alliances between Indonesian and international governments, industry and academia are emerging to create shared knowledge of rivers as complex systems, and explore transdisciplinary approaches to revitalisation.

At the 2021 International River Symposium, Research Fellow Dr Wikke Novalia presents preliminary findings of research into the enablers and barriers of effective river revitalisation of Indonesia's Citarum River.
