The fight for power in some of the country's metros have been a hot political potato since the advent of coalition governance.

The City of Johannesburg has seen two mayors in the past month, with some political parties in the council wielding a proverbial axe against the incumbent Dr Mpho Phalatse. On the other hand, Ekurhuleni has failed to elect a new mayor this week, after ousting Tania Campbell through a motion of no confidence. Where does all this tussling and jostling for power put the voter?
Terry Tselane, the Executive Chairperson at the Institute of Election Management Services in Africa gives some insight.
