Block coloring is a versatile way for improving your practice with tones and values as well as significantly improving drawing strokes and developing those muscle memory.
Also, black and white drawings are an excellent way to rapidly tune your skills when it comes to tonal values.

Learning this way of drawing helps you rapidly increase your drawing skills when it comes to refining the strokes and appreciating tones. Then you can transfer this skill easily to free hand drawing.
