Lifting Fog Reveals Massive New Construction Site! 5 December 2022 Giga Texas Updates (10:35AM)

Published
Gigafactory Texas on 5 December 2022! This is where Model Y’s are built and soon Cyber Truck production will start!

Another very foggy morning at Giga Texas, so I had to wait a few hours for it to clear enough to fly. I’m glad I did as the lifting fog revealed some significant changes, including a massive new construction site on the west side of the highway!

For the video, you’ll see the first half of video is a bit foggy, but it gradually clears throughout the video with particularly good views in the last five minutes.

I have a detailed introduction in this video, with a lot of great information and a few corrections.

Timestamps:
Discussion of 2 topic items with map for orientation: 0:06 to 0:47
Discussion of blue marking tape installation on south end: 0:48 to 2:00
Discussion of pile testing rig: 2:01 to 3:37
Discussion and Corrections about Continuous Flight Auger (CFA) process: 3:38 to 6:48
Drone flight footage & infographics: 6:53 to 31:15

In the video introduction, I provide some additional details, several corrections to previous information, and additional illustrations and context about two areas on the construction site. First, on the south end, I discuss a specialized blue material some of the crews were installing to help identify and mark the installation of underground blue water pipes. This material is buried on top of the underground pipes to help future maintenance and construction crews identify where the pipes are located.

I also discuss some activities, including several corrections of previous information I’ve provided in the northeast new construction area, right next to the battery cathode plant. First, I discuss soil testing rigs and provide basic information on how this is accomplished, including the testing rigs that crews have been using. I also make corrections to some inaccurate information I provided on the current drilling operations, specifically the Continuous Flight Auger (CFA) process.

In this discussion, I mention that I inaccurately said crews were continuing soil testing, when in fact, they are installing concrete and rebar reinforced piers now.

I would like to thank my viewer Go Coyote and Patreons Bob Callaghan and Dessie Doolan for helping me correct my errors, provide more accurate information and for helping me make this presentation.

Here are some other highlights from today's video:

The west main entrance stairs demolition work is nearly completed, with just a small section in front of the glass doors remaining. Also, the full width of the concrete apron saw cutting and slab removal has been reached, and both ends have mirrored cutout sections forming an interesting pattern.

On the south end, large, corrugated steel pipes have been delivered and are being staged near where concrete pipe segments are being installed in a deep trench. Other earthwork is underway near this trench and pipe construction site.

On the east side small parking lot, we see a huge supercharger installation underway, with somewhere around 30 charging stations being assembled and installed.

Just west of the battery cathode plant, we see significant foundation work underway, including footing construction, auger drilling and concrete pile construction, GeoPier drilling, deep trenching, and white pipe installation. Also, the cathode plant has more exterior wall panels in the process of being installed just over the west steel structure, while nearby, crews continue assembling the iron pipes and manifolds.

The electrical switchyard shows more progress, especially with steel assembly and overall, it is expanding in size.

Major changes on the west side of highway, including doubling of the staging area width, more earthwork in the large hill and pond area and on the northwest of the staging area. This is in an area where a new permit was filed suggesting a logistics lot may be constructed.
