We are happy to share the recording from the event by EAGE Local Chapter Germany, organized on Tuesday, 14 December 2021 featuring guest speakers PD Dr. Frank Strozyk (Head of Transfer & Communication at Fraunhofer IEG) and Elias Khashfe (Master's student at Fraunhofer IEG).

Abstract:
In this presentation, Dr. Frank Strozyk will present the newly founded Fraunhofer Institute for Energy Infrastructures and Geothermal Energy (IEG). He will talk about the current projects, the challenges Fraunhofer IEG is currently facing, and the future direction of IEG, with a focus on geothermal R&D activities. In additions, master's student Elias Khashfe will present his thesis which was researched at the Fraunhofer Institute. He will also discuss the EU-funded project DGE-ROLLOUT - Roll-out of Deep Geothermal Energy in North-West Europe.

About the presenters:

PD Dr. Frank Strozyk completed his diploma in geology at RWTH Aachen University in 2006. He received his doctoral degree in 2009 at MARUM - Center for Marine Environmental Sciences with a focus on submarine slope stability and seismicity in Bremen. In 2018, he habilitated in geosciences at RWTH Aachen University with a focus on evolution and structure of subsurface salt deposits and has been working as a private lecturer since then. In 2019, he moved to the International Geothermal Centre (GZB) as Senior Project Manager and since 2020 he is Head of Transfer & Strategy and Senior Project Manager at Fh-IEG.

Elias Khashfe received his Bachelor Degree in Mineralogy from the University of Heidelberg in 2019. He then enrolled in the Georesources Management Master's Program at RWTH Aachen University. He completed all his coursework earlier in 2021 and has collaborated with Fraunhofer IEG for his thesis research which he completed this December.
