Indian Railways is putting its full force to reach the Kashmir Valley by rail. Due to this episode, Indian Railways has completed the work of installing a garder (foundation) in the bridge number 39 being built in Reasi.
Ashutosh Gangal, General Manager, Northern Railway said that bridge number 39 is located between Katra-Reasi. The yard of Reasi station with two lines and platform will be built on this bridge which will be an engineering marvel. The General Management informed that about 7 thousand million tonnes of re-enforcement steel and 6700 million tonnes of structural steel have been used for the construction of the bridge. The work of girder installation of mega bridge number 39 between Katra-Reasi has been completed. With the erection of the foundation of the bridge, it is a major achievement i.e. a milestone for this important rail project.
The length of this railway bridge is 490 meters. The bridge is situated on a 105 meter high concrete pillar. This bridge has a total of 8 spans. Reasi station yard (main line, loopline and platform on both sides) will be constructed on the bridge.
A 326 km long rail line is being laid from Jammu to Baramulla to connect the Kashmir Valley with the Indian Railways network. Out of 326 kms, 215 kms of railways have been completed. Trains are also running on this rail route.
The construction work is going on in full swing in the remaining part of Katra-Banihal rail section (111 kms). A large number of tunnels and bridges are being constructed in this part of Himalayan terrain and difficult terrain. The world's highest railway bridge is also being built in this section, which is being built in Reasi district itself.
