Description: Building on a quote from Chief Donny Smoke from Dakota Plains First Nation that goes “… good governance and accountability builds prosperity…” this presentation takes the attendee through, from an Economic Development perspective what governance can do and how it can set a business up for success, what governance is, and what the key dimensions of good governance are, including addressing the 5 core functions of corporate leadership. This presentation also introduces some of the potential outcomes or some of the expected results from practicing good governance, from healthy professional sustainable relationships through to the possibility of long term financial sustainability. We end the presentation with conversation on the rising trend in the use of corporate Trusts to reduce risk and to how they can be a tool in the managements of wealth and net revenues.

Speaker: Glenn Fleetwood

Glenn Fleetwood is a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA), a legacy Certified General Accountant (CGA) and is currently completing his MBA at the University of Fredericton. He holds his Public Sector Certificate from CPA Canada and is considered an advanced user and preparer of Financial Statements under Public Sector Standards (PSAS)- which includes full disclosure and transparency in the preparation of PSAS compliant financial statements. With over twenty- five (25) years of Executive Management, Resource Management and Accounting experience in not-for-profit, manufacturing and government services, Glenn brings a diversity of experience to BDO’s Indigenous Executive Management Services Team. As an active champion of good governance and timely financial reporting, Glenn believes that that practicing and following a strong, and robust governance framework will always result in desired outcomes and the results organizations are looking to achieve. Glenn has spent the last eleven (11) years of his career in service to Indigenous Communities and organizations helping them define and achieve success through the development of strong governance models, policies and controls, planning, annual operating and capital budgets and robust financial reporting. Glenn is a member of CPA Canada, CPA MB, CPA SK, AFOA, CPHR MB, and a member of the Institute of Public Administration of Canada (IPAC).
