MEANING
Information: When we have organized data which is useful for further processing it is called the information.

Systems: It means a set of principals or procedures according to which something can be done

So Information Systems pertain to defined mechanism to store information in a computer system

ELEMENS OF INFORMATION SYSTEMS
Software: Every function is performed in a software. Since, people use the software directly, it is also called application software.

People: Staff or employee who work on these software's is an important component.

Data: The data is there In the system and depending on the level of work, the data is required
DIFFERENT KINDS OF INFORMATION SYSTEMS
Transactional Processing System(TPS): It is a system in which day to day transactions are processed. For example: airline reservations, processing grocesory sales etc.

Management Information Systems: It stores the information regarding the company’s basic operations like payroll, employee records.


Decision Support System(DSS): These are the used by senior management to make non routine decisions. They are dependent on the underling MIS and TPS for the data and internal reports and also form the basis of planning long policy of the organization.

It consists of DSS Database, Software system, User Interface.
Executive Information Systems(EIS): It is used by the executives of an organization. It helps the organization in analyzing the environment in which it operates. The information comes from the internal as well external sources and is weakly structures.
SOFTWARE USED IN DIFFERENT DIVISIONS
Sales and Marketing: They constitute the sales order system, sales support system.

Finance and Accounting: It constitutes the general ledger, payroll and fund management system.

Human Resources: It consists of the employee skills inventory, Benefit system.
