Hi iam Dr.Mahmood and welcome to our YouTube chanel EASY MEDICOSIS..

Hydrocephalus is defined as " it is condition in which either there is excessive production of CSF or blockage to CSF flow resulting accumulation of CSF within brain ventricles thus increasing intracranial pressure..

FLOW OF CSF :

CSF produced by choroid plexuses thus CSF reached to Lateral ventricle then shift to third ventricle through foramina of munro..CSF move to fourth ventricle from third ventricle through cerebral aqueduct of sylvious..Thus CSF move to subarachnoid space from fourth ventricle through foramina luschka and megendie...There CSF is absorbed by arachnoid villi then enters into jugular vein then SVC Then right atrium.

CAUSES OF HYDROCEPHALUS :

Aqueductal stenosis
Dandy walker syndrome
Arnold chiarri syndrome
Intraventricular hemorrhage
Meningitis

TYPES OF HYDROCEPHALUS :

Communicating hydrocephalus
Non communicationg hydrocephalus
Normal pressure hydrocephalus
Hydrocephalus ex vacuo

CLINICAL FEATURES:

Enlarged head
Anterior Fontanel bulg out
Frontal bossing
Setting sun sign
Macewen's sign
Delay suture closing
Increase intracranial pressure..

DIAGNOSIS :

Cranial ultrasonography
MRI
Lumbar Puncture
Fundoscopy

TREATMENT :

Acetazolamide
Mannitol
Furosemide
Shunting.
