Foreigners who plan to start a restaurant business in Malaysia need to possess a Malaysian business license to operate the business in the country legally.
The approval may take between one to six months depending on the type of business which the business owner plans to operate. The authorities also carry out the physical inspection of the premises before issuing the license.

Halal License.

Restaurant owners who want to sell products such as vegetables, rice, sugar, fish, prawns, and other similar products need to obtain permission from the departments of the government vhich deal in these products.

Restaurant owners need to pay the license fee spedfied under the by-laws or as is prescribed under the
government schedule.

Restaurants operating in Malaysia require a Wholsale and Retail Trade license unless the restaurant has 50%
of its shares held by local citizens.

Many restaurants offer entertainment options; owners of restaurants which do so require should apply relevant license for such a purpose.

Restaurant owners in Malaysia are required to obtin a signboard license and a business premises license rom
their respective state authorities.
