The investment style you pick doesn't really matter. However, it must match your time horizon and risk appetite. You must stick with the investment style for the long run. You must have Large Cap Funds in your Equity Portfolio irrespective of where the Stock Market stands. You could allocate 50% of your Core Portfolio towards Large Cap Funds. First timers can have Large Cap Funds and Flexi Cap Funds as a part of their Equity Portfolio. Moreover, the core portfolio can be 80% of your Equity Portfolio with the remaining 20% being your satellite portfolio.
