Depositing Data – Next Steps in Research Data Management

Published
UBC Advanced Research Computing hosted a week long UBC Research Computing Back to School Bootcamp from Oct 3-7, 2022. Metadata, or “information about data”, is crucial for data to be understood and interpreted by others. Not only is this important for those collaborating on projects to discern their colleagues work, but as funders are increasingly requiring data to be shared after a project’s completion, metadata is fundamental to the data’s reusability. This session will begin by giving an overview of metadata types and best practices. It will then shift to introduce the Federated Research Data Repository (FRDR), which is a data repository specifically designed to house and share large data sets, and will provide a walk-through of depositing data into FRDR directly from UBC ARC Chinook (Chinook) using Globus file transfer.
