DAOs - What do they do and how do they work?

If 2021 was the year of “NFTs”, some believe that 2022 will be the year of “DAOs” - or “Decentralized Autonomous Organizations”. DAOs have been described as the Web3 version of cities, communities, and companies where groups of people come together over a shared mission and have ownership rights and governance say. Ever since the first DAO, called The DAO, crumbled under the attack of hackers in 2016, many new ones have formed, each drawing inspiration from other iterations in their design of tokenomics and governance.

In this video, we walk through a diverse set of DAOs - a creator-centric DAO, the curation marketplace DAO, a sports fan DAO with ambitions to purchase an NBA team, and an exclusive crypto membership community DAO.

Through these stories, we’ll explore considerations that enable DAOs to be successful as well as the various risks related to legal and governance structures. DAOs are very much in an experimental phase today, and we believe the early seeds planted today will evolve into the future structures of how people will organize, work, and pool resources globally.
