Cybersecurity Considerations for Data Localization Regulation

Published
Many countries around the world are considering or enacting data localization requirements and restrictions on data flows. Such restrictions, however, can affect cybersecurity. For example, timely access to data is needed to defend against cyberattacks. Data localization requirements can inadvertently undermine the security of network traffic.

Please join CSIS for a conversation to address the cybersecurity considerations for proposed data localization efforts across the globe. The panel will begin with a presentation from Peter Swire and DeBrae Kennedy-Mayo on their joint paper "The Effects of Data Localization on Cybersecurity." It will then follow with a presentation from Victoria Baines to highlight her recent paper "On joined up law-making: the privacy/safety/security dynamic, and what this means for data governance." The event will then move into a panel discussion with the presenters and Andreas Mitrakas and Raphael Marichez.

This event is made possible by general support to CSIS.
