Chinese and US defense chiefs agreed in a meeting on Tuesday that the two armies should properly handle differences and strengthen crisis management to keep their relationship generally stable, said Tan Kefei, spokesman of the Chinese Ministry of National Defense.
Chinese State Councilor and Defense Minister Wei Fenghe on Tuesday met with his US counterpart Lloyd Austin in Siem Reap, Cambodia.
"China shoulders no responsibility for the current situation of China-US relations. The main reason for that is the United States has made wrong strategic judgment," said Tan at a press conference following the meeting.
"China is sincere to develop the bilateral relations, but the basic premise is that the US must do what it says, keep its promises, implement the consensus reached by the two heads of state, earnestly respect China's core interests and major concerns, and adopt rational and pragmatic dialog policies to effectively eliminate the root causes of threats, and work with China to put into operation the consensus of the two heads of state," he said.
"The two sides believe that the two armies should earnestly implement the important consensus reached by the two heads of state, keep communication channels open, properly handle contradictions and differences, strengthen crisis management, and strive to maintain the overall stability of the relationship between the two armies. The two sides should adhere to mutual respect, peaceful coexistence, and win-win cooperation, and jointly ensure that China-US relations move forward on the right course without yawing or stalling, not to mention colliding," said Tan.
