Authentic leadership is an approach to leadership that emphasises building the leader's acceptability through honest relationships with followers which value their input and are built on an ethical foundation. Generally, authentic leaders are positive people with truthful self-concepts who promote openness. Authentic Leaders are people who have an internalised moral perspective that is guided by internal moral standards and values rather than by the organisational or societal pressures.
- The leaders display authentic transparency i.e. they present authentic character and that develops trust with other people (idealised influence). Authentic is not expressing your emotions.
- They analyse all relevant data and make decisions objectively. This attribute is also called balanced processing.
