We are excited to be hosting a virtual discussion with H.E. Hanne Fugl Eskjær, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Denmark to Canada, H.E. Hlynur Gudjonsson, Ambassador of Iceland to Canada , and H.E. Jon Elvedal Fredriksen, Ambassador of Norway to Canada on May 4th at 11 AM ET!

The discussion will focus on Arctic security, NATO cooperation, building infrastructure in the Arctic, and current geopolitical developments. It will also touch upon many other interesting subjects!

H.E. Hanne Fugl Eskjær, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Denmark to Canada
Ambassador Hanne Fugl Eskjaer moved to Ottawa in September of 2019 where she enjoys strengthening the already strong bonds between Canada, Denmark, Greenland and the Faroe Islands.The ambassador was previously the Arctic Ambassador and Head of the North America Department in Copenhagen.Ambassador Eskjaer has also been the Ambassador to Bangladesh and for the past 23 years held various Ministry of Foreign Affairs positions throughout the world, including Syria, Prague, New York, and now Canada – working on EU, UN, Middle East, Eastern Europe, Asia, Security, Development, Indigenous rights and cultural policies.The ambassador has also worked as Senior Policy Advisor to the Commissioner for Human Rights and Democracy of the Council of the Baltic Sea States and Associate Professor at the Institute of Political Science, Copenhagen University.

H.E. Hlynur Gudjonsson, Ambassador of Iceland to Canada
Ambassador to Canada since August 1, 2021, Hlynur Guðjónsson brings with him over 30 years of experience in international trade and investment, public relations and marketing, and politics in Iceland and North America.

Immediately prior to his appointment as Ambassador, he served for 15 years as Consul General in New York and Trade Commissioner for North America at the Consulate of Iceland in New York. There he served concurrently in the roles of Managing Director of Iceland Naturally, General Manager of the Icelandic American Chamber of Commerce, and co-founder and chairman of the board of both the Nordic Innovation House New York and The Foreign Trade Commissioners Association in New York. Prior to his carrier in the foreign service he was an executive in the seafood industry in the United States and served in various management positions in advertising, public relations and political campaigns in Iceland.

Ambassador Guðjónsson holds BA degree in History from the University of Iceland and MA in Integrated Marketing Communication from Emerson College (USA).

H.E. Jon Elvedal Fredriksen, Ambassador of Norway to Canada
Before becoming Norway’s ambassador to Canada, Jon Elvedal Fredriksen was a diplomatic advisor to the Prime Minister of Norway. He has previously been Norway’s Ambassador to Ukraine and Consul General of Norway in Murmansk, Russia, and has extensive experience with Arctic affairs and security policy. Mr. Fredriksen is a graduate of the University of Tromsø, Norway in Russian studies, world literature and structural linguistics.
