Indonesia has initiated a national programme of co-management of tuberculosis (TB) and diabetes mellitus (DM) based on a primary healthcare approach since 2017. Dr Long and team adopted a mixed-method to investigate the detection and co-management of TB-DM in Jakarta in 2017-2019. They found an overall increase in case detection of TB-DM after the introduction of the TB-DM co-management programme. However, the implementation is sub-optimal due to issues with health system governance, healthcare workforce motivation, and quality of care. They suggest to strengthen policy dialogue and multi-sector cooperation to improve the performance of co-management of TB and DM in Indonesia.
