Advancements in Building Data Exchange with IFC and Semantic Web Technologies

IBPSA-USA's Building Data Exchange subcommittee is hosting a webinar related to the advancements on various building data exchange formats. The webinar will present a quick primer on semantic web technologies such as RDF, as well as the use cases and advances on various schemas including buildingSMART, BRICK, and ASHRAE Standard 223P on interoperability. The webinar will last 60 minutes with time for Q&A.

Presenters:

Léon van Berlo, buildingSMART International

Léon van Berlo is the Technical Director at buildingSMART International. Léon has previously served a variety of roles at the National Institute for Innovation (TNO) in the Netherlands, including BIMserver Program Manager and Senior BIM Innovator. Léon also worked on several open standards and BIM standardization initiatives for international audiences.

Joel Bender, Cornell University

Joel Bender is a programmer and analyst at Cornell University. He is the senior developer for the Energy Management and Control System which is a cluster of systems that supervise the Building Automation and Control (BAC) systems on campus. Joel is on ASHRAE 223P's committee on "Semantic Data Model for Analytics and Automation Applications in Buildings."

Gabe Fierro, Colorado School of Mines and NREL.

Gabe Fierro is an assistant professor of Computer Science at Colorado School of Mines, with a joint appointment at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory. He works at the intersection of databases, systems, information modeling, data science, the built environment and the Internet of Things. His research interests are broadly in designing, building and deploying systems that enable sustainable practices by making data easier to discover, manage and leverage.
