4 UK Economic Scenarios To Use In Your Strategy

Published
My plan this week was to carry on the series on climate strategy. But economic turbulence continues, this time in reaction to the UK Government’s ‘mini budget’ - a signal of their intended growth strategy. So this video is intended to help you decide what, if anything, to change in your strategy by plotting out how the growth strategy might play out.

Strategists have an important role to play in these moments of volatility. The long term structural shifts that your strategy should be designed to shape and respond to have not gone away. It can be tempting, however, to make a sudden pivot to tactical action. Furthermore, we all bring our own biases to the table when thinking about policies and politics. These can lead us to make assumptions about how things will play out that could be very wrong. In the video I therefore advocate for a scenario-based approach to understanding medium-term events. By testing your plans and strategy in these scenarios you can understand the tweaks you might want to make in order to succeed during the immediate period of uncertainty and what those changes would mean for your longer term strategic choices.

Wow. That was a long sentence. Anyhow, I hope you enjoy this deviation into strategies for recessions. There’s a bit of climate in there for those of you who are keeping your eyes firmly on the horizon!

As ever please like, subscribe and leave me a comment if you enjoyed this one. Oh, and if it hits 1000 views I’ll make a video on my base case of how the new UK economic strategy will play out.
