2022 IFSAM Congress: Open Science in Management Research: Future Trends and Challenges

In recent years, research funding bodies, governments and wider society, as well as academics are demanding greater access to the products of academic research, much of which is publicly funded. Such access, often captured under the umbrella term “open science”, can be facilitated by information technology. On online platforms, researchers can freely and at low cost share published work, data, software and other research resources. But implementing open science runs up against many obstacles. Some obstacles are fundamental and structural, such as the traditional business models of academic publishers that changes significantly with open science. Other obstacles are more practical, such as the limitations on the utility and privacy issues of open access qualitative data taken. The move to open science is, nevertheless, inescapable. This session will consider the opportunities and challenges of open science, with particular reference to management research.
