2021 PDG B-5 Annual Meeting- Data Governance Strategies to Drive Equitable Early Childhood Systems

Published
Governance is the cornerstone to high-quality and useful early childhood data. The process to guide the collection, management, and use of data across multiple systems requires an effective data governance structure and processes. Participants heard from several presenters, including an SEA in South Carolina who is establishing the governance process for their state’s early childhood data. Participants heard from an expert at Child Trends, a national research organization that has been working to advance the use of early childhood data to drive equitable access to early childhood programs. Finally, participants heard from staff at the U.S. Department of Education about how the Common Education Data Standards can be leveraged within Statewide Longitudinal Data Systems to effectively use and understand early childhood data. Kansas presented on their work with PDG B-5 state partners to create a functional Data Trust through a lengthy interagency review and approval process. They also discussed identifying a Data Trustee Champion, building the will for the agreement among administrative leaders, and integrating and aligning ECIDs goals into existing priorities. California shared how they collaborated with many state and local partners to launch their new Brilliant Beginnings State Child Care Data Landscape.
